Existing Home Sales report for September, 2026 was released by The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR®) this morning:

Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y): -2.21% (-90,000 homes)

Inventory: 1,600,000 homes.

The yellow-highlighted, "actual" figure above represents the preliminary, seasonally adjusted annualized sales count of existing homes, co-ops and condominiums for the indicated month. The "predicted" figure is what economists were expecting, while the "actual" is the true or real figure.

"...'Despite the small monthly gain on a seasonally adjusted basis, August and September marked the two slowest months for home sales this year,' said NAR Chief Economist Dr. Lawrence Yun. 'Further increases in mortgage rates in recent weeks mean fewer buyers can qualify to purchase a home.'

'Higher inventory and lengthening days on market give buyers improved negotiating power. Home sellers need to be realistic about local market conditions, which could require price discounts and other incentives to attract buyers,' Yun said..."
